Hi, I'm Yvonne Akinmodun

I am a Career coach and I help mid to late career professional find their dream careers.

Making a career change is not easy at any age. In fact, for many, the older we are the harder it can seem.

I say this based on personal experience. I was made redundant in my 40s and I thought I would next find another role. My first instinct like most of us was to immediately find a job in the same field. After all, I had bills to pay and not having a job was not really an option. So I started on the journey of seeking a new role, which after several months of unemployment, I found.

However, at the back of my mind was this niggling doubt. Am I doing something that I really enjoy or am I just trying to pay the bills?

Then I realised I wanted to do something that would give me a real spring in my step whilst making a difference. That all sounded great but what could I do? I had been in the HR space for almost 20 years and it was all I knew. I couldn’t afford to retrain, nor could I afford to take a massive pay cut.

I didn’t realise it at the time but what I was experiencing was very common. Recent research by HR Magazine shows that a whopping 76% of people over 40 go to work every day simply because they need to earn a living but in reality, many of them no longer enjoy what they do.

So, what’s the answer? My journey was a somewhat long and winding one in which I had to do a huge amount of soul searching to find out what my strengths were and what did I enjoy doing. It was only when I understood what support I would need to make that transition.

One of my biggest discoveries as part of my journey was realising that I was not along in feeling this way. Many of my friends, colleagues, and clients had or were going through the same challenges.

This motivated me into creating my Career Change Programme which starts out helping people overcome some of the barriers to making a successful career change. In the programme, we talk about overcoming your fears, building your confidence and recognising your strengths as a professinoal person seeking a career change.

My programmes are designed to help people achieve a successful career change. In putting my programmes together, I recognise that we are all at different stages in our personal journey. Some are very clear that a 9-5, perhaps in a different sector or company is the route for them.

For others, following their passion by moving from a regular 9-5 into becoming an entrepreneur is the right answer, and for others; their final career path is still unclear.

If any of these paths ring true for you but you are not sure how to make the first move towards archiving a career and life you love, , I hope you will explore my website to see how I can help you achieve a fulfilling and rewarding career.
